Hi — I’m Tyler. I live in Upstate New York, and SceneScout started because finding out what’s happening around here was harder than it should be. The good stuff was scattered across five different platforms, buried in Facebook groups, or living on some venue’s calendar page nobody ever visits. By the time you heard about the show, it was last weekend.
So I built an engine that does the hunting for me. It reads hundreds of local sources — venue calendars, university event feeds, museums, breweries, farmers markets, ticket platforms — twice a day, every day, and pulls everything into one place. Then it cleans the data: deduplicates the copies, fixes the wrong dates, filters the spam, and ranks what’s actually worth your evening.
I started posting the results as weekly “Everything Happening” master lists on Reddit — first in Rochester, then Buffalo, Syracuse, and Ithaca. People kept adding events in the comments, correcting times, sharing venues I’d missed. Those threads shaped what SceneScout is: a local project that gets better because locals contribute to it.
Browsing is free and always will be. Every event links to the organizer’s own page — I’m not selling tickets or scraping your data. The site pays for itself through venue listings and local partnerships, which keep it independent: no ad networks, no algorithmic feed designed to keep you scrolling. Find your thing, close the tab, go outside.
